Whitlow Family Branson Missouri Vacation August 2010
From August 13 to August 17, 2010 the Whitlow Family, me (Uncle George), the
sweet wife Angela, our 14 year old son Aaron, and my other brother Joe
discovered Branson, Missouri. Back in the humble beginnings of Whitlow Smoke
School Nation in 2001, my Mamma and I set a goal to see Branson. We got about
halfway and ran out of time and money. Ever since then I have had this goal,
Branson or Bust. We made it to Branson in August 2010. Unfortunately Mamma had
joined Daddy in the happy hunting ground upstairs.
We
stayed at the
Majestic Condo on Table Rock Lake. The mountain view of the lake below was
spectacular. I spent the early morning hours sitting on the back patio admiring
the eagles soar above the sailboats, steamboats, ski boats on the water. At
night I could reach out and touch the stars. It was so quiet and peaceful up
there on the mountain. You should take the
eagle tour
when you are in Branson.
We had the most fun boat riding. We rented a ski boat and tube from
Table Rock Lake State Park
Marina. Angie drove the boat and it was so fun and cool cruising at 50 MPH
with the wind and water splashing in our face. Aaron rode the tube on back of
the boat for hours. I only lasted about 5 minutes on the tube. I was lying on my
belly holding on for dear life. The water about beat me to death. The water
almost blinded me splashing in my eyes. I had to keep my eyes closed. I waved my
hands and begged Angie to stop. I sure was glad when she did.
Branson is a family vacation stop. There are so many
Branson Shows to
choose from. We loved the
Titanic
Museum,
Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and
Hollywood Wax Museum. We really loved seeing the thousands of butterflies
during the day show at
Butterfly Palace. We were
disappointed by the night show at Butterfly Palace because the butterflies were
sleeping and you could not see them.
Our favorite shows were
Presleys’ Country Jamboree and
Liverpool Legends. The Presleys' show reminded me a lot of
Hee Haw. Four generations of the Presley family sang old time gospel and
traditional country and western favorites. We lmao laughed a lot at their
comedy.

We also loved the
Sheppard of the Hills Outdoor Play. The show started with a wonderful
traditional western trail meal of steak, corn on the cob, and beans served under
a large outdoor pavilion. I was amazed by the pavilion. Outside it was 100
degrees. However several ceiling fans created a nice comfortable breeze through
the open sides and front of the pavilion. During supper we were entertained by
the Sons of the Pioneers,
the traditional western band founded by Roy
Rogers. We loved to sing along with songs like Happy Trails to You, Cool
Water, Tumbling Tumble Weed, and Ghost Riders in the Sky. After the show, we
caught a tractor and wagon to the Sheppard of the Hills outdoor stage for the
night show. We really loved the heartwarming play that consisted of drama and
several gunfights. I jumped up when the mountain lion jumped out very close to
me and the man shot it.
We were lucky to be in Branson during the
summer antique car show. Tourists had filled up the many hotels on the
Branson stip. At night they sit in
yard chairs on the grounds in front of the hotels and watched the midnight
endless parade of the antique cars. We had a wonderful time in Branson and I
can’t wait to go back.
It ain't over until the fat cat sings
