Christmas 2010, deer hunting, student of the year
Christmas greetings from the Whitlow Smoke School Nation family and crew. During
December and January we are taking the Whitlow Smoke School Nation tour into
Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, and Kentucky. Our tour locations and
dates are posted at the end of this email. You can
schedule for the next 6 months.
It is already Christmas again. Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you.
Happy Birthday Jesus. It has been rather warm for Christmas in Dixie. Here in
Monroe Louisiana at 4 in the morning it is now 55 degrees F. Since both of our
smoke school crews are fully functioning independently of me, my other brother
Joe and I have been able to deer hunt nearly every day since November 4. There
have been a few really cold mornings but most of the time I wear light weight
camouflage overhauls and a jacket. Most of the evenings, I have to fight off the
mosquitoes. I wish I could get Angie to hunt more. She has been a few times, but
I guess it is not her cup of tea.
We are doing most of our hunting on our new lease located in Caldwell Parish
near the junction of Louisiana Highway 846 at Tin Top Road.
Map it. We are hunting in a section of the woods with too many hallows and
hills for logging. Therefore we have a lot of beautiful old growth hardwood
timber with white oak, red oak, and pin oak. We are not seeing that many deer,
so we are looking for a new place to hunt. I would love to try some ground
around Castor Creek or in the marsh area around Dodson, Louisiana. Attention all
Weyerhaeuser personnel. Let us know if you have a place where we can hunt ducks
or deer. Have gun will travel anywhere to find deer.
The
greatest event in our life lately is our son Aaron Cardinal (center in white
shirt). He was named the
student of
the year at Pinecrest School in Ouachita Parish. Aaron made the newspaper
to read all about it. Aaron deserves most of the credit because he is the
one busting the books. Aaron has made some dramatic changes since last school
year. It seems like last year that I got a call every other week from some upset
teacher complaining about Aaron’s grades and his cocky attitude and behavior in
classes. Aaron was depressed leaving his birth father, Joe Cardinal back in
Indiana so I packed Joe up and moved him down here to be with his son. Joe has
become my other brother, Joe. Aaron also needed a positive male role model. I
said not to worry, he has me. They said-- a positive role model. So we signed
Aaron up for the boy scouts to get to know the scout master, Saint Paul Laird,
who works for us. Angie has been burning the midnight oil to get Aaron to bust
the books. This is a dramatic story of hope for all of us facing problems
raising our kids. We, as parents, need to be alert to minor changes in our kid’s
life and take action. You cannot just sit there like a bump on a log and let the
chips fall where they will. You have to make it happen. You have to have faith,
get down on your knees to speak the good Lord above and make it happen.
Football
season is almost over. LSU did ok although they did not win the national
championship. I am a little disappointed. I must admit that I really love
watching Auburn and it looks like they are well on the way to be national
champions. Drew Bres and the Saints are doing very good and I expect them to win
the Super Bowl again this year.
And that is the news from Lake Whitlow Begone where all the woman are brave, all
the men are good looking, and all of the children are above average.
It ain't over until the fat cat sings
