Training and Course Objectives 

To train state and federal environmental regulators and industrial plant Environmental, Health, and Safety personnel to become qualified visible emissions observers and evaluators to meet the requirements of EPA Method 9 and EPA Method 22.

Our training consists of 2 parts: Classroom and EPA Method 9 training and field-test and certification.

Classroom: EPA requires initial classroom for all new attendees and recommends a refresher classroom every third year. Whitlow classrooms are informative and fun. We cover everything you need to know about visible emissions compliance including: reading opacity. We present an overview of the state and federal visible emissions regulations and rules.

EPA Method 9 Field-training and certification: EPA requires field certification every 6 months. All method 9 tests conducted by individuals without current certification are invalid, null, and void. Whitlow conducts training at each location on our schedule every 6 months so you can covently maintain certification. To obtain a certificate each individual must take a certification test and meet the certification requirements. All candidates who pass the field-training test will meet the EPA, state, and local requirements to be certified visible emissions evaluators in accordance with state and federal operating permits.
