Important details you should
know about Whitlow Smoke School schedule
Attention
all contact personnel: Please make sure to relay all of the schedule information
to your employees. Be sure to include the agenda, driving directions and what to
bring. If your employees do not have access to the internet, you should print
the information and distribute it to the employees. Otherwise you can simply
email the specific links to your employees. I appreciate your cooperation.
Report
time: Please check on the agenda link located on the specific page for the smoke
school you desire. Usually the report time is
8:00 AM on the first day of the session.
Some small schools are one day and some schools are two day.
You do not have to send all of your people at one
time. You can send some to report for the morning session at 8 AM local time and
some in the afternoon session at noon. However, you must include this on your
registration or at least notify us by
email or phone ahead of time,
if you plan to attend the afternoon session. Since most people pass the certification test during the morning session, we pack up and leave after 1 PM.

This rule of thumb also applies to private schools unless you have arranged a

Smoke School Weather:
See the website for weather reports for each
location. Click schedule, location, and then weather. All Smoke Schools will be held on the day scheduled,
unless there is a severe prolonged thunderstorm or a blizzard. You can always
contact us.
We always set up the school with a background that is contrasting to the smoke
to make the test easier to pass, regardless of the sky conditions. In most
cases, we have a campfire to help us keep warm. In most cases we have a shelter
available to keep us dry if it rains or snows. If we are having the school at
your plant, please make arrangements for us to build a fire. We will need a
metal fire ring or pit, and clearance from your safety people. We appreciate
your support and we want to help make your experience at Smoke School fun and
comfortable. Smoke School is an outside class. Please dress for it.

Where are the hotels located?
Hotels are linked on the website. Click schedule, location, hotels.
What if I get lost?
Contact the office if you
get lost. Save the office phone number to your cell phone. Find the closest
address where you are and call the office. We will use the maps on our
webpage to direct you to the school. The maps and driving directions are
posted on the individual school location pages linked on the
schedule. You can use
your GPS to find the school location address. Please pass this information
on to your employees. Our office opens at 8 AM Central Time. However, we
have a phone in the bedroom of our house. If you call before 8 AM be patient
while I wake up, find my glasses, and turn on the computer. If your cell
phone has internet capabilities, you can go to
www.smokeschool.net, then click on
schedule, and then the location.
If you arrive late be sure to notify the instructor to add you to the roll
call.
What if I cannot attend the scheduled date?
Here are
some options:

You can let another employee swap with
you at not additional charge. Please change your
registration ahead of
time if possible. Notify the instructor if you cannot change the
registration.

register for another location at no additional charge

If you paid in advance and cannot find
another convenient location, we can give you a credit due for your next
smoke school

According to EPA, Smoke School Certificates are valid nationwide for 6 months.
We will hold schools at each location every 6 months. We will update this
schedule at the end of each school and notify the attendees of the
recertification dates. Each attendee should send us an
email
to be added to the list to receive all scheduled updates. Please take the time
to read our emails.
Lagniappe- Something extra
: We serve Cajun fun and a feast at
every school. We also bring ice cold bottled water, soft drinks, last months
fresh donuts, and
last weeks coffee. (Actually we make fresh coffee and stop on the way to pick up
fresh donuts when we can find them.....) You may also bring the donuts if you
know where to find them. Call us ahead of time and we will reimburse you. Donuts
are important to attitude so I have linked donut bakeries on or location pages.
I like to get the hot glazed right out of the oven and have a few on the way to
the school. Donuts are good for my sugar diabetes. Donuts are a special
fruit, low calorie, and good for you. That is what my momma always used to say. We also have drawings for gift certificates, t-shirts, hats,
and other merchandise. We also cook a first class lunch at each location. We
serve up southern meals with Cajun Louisiana flavor cooked into every detail. We
even bring paper towels. Come pass a good time on the Bayou. Essentially the
lunch is free. But in reality you are paying $200 to $300 a plate, so you might
as well stay and eat. Several friends and long time customers tell me they only
came to eat, and that is the truth.
On-the- Job Training-- When we
conduct schools at plants, and have the plant manager's permission, we will
conduct On-the- Job Training on reading emissions at the plant.
When you come to a Whitlow Smoke
School, bring a smile, a positive attitude, a clipboard, a pen, a yard chair, a
hat, a coat, raingear, mosquito spray, sunscreen, chop sticks
chap stick, shorts in the summer, and a fishing pole. The fish always
bite at a Whitlow Smoke School.
