Sometimes plants like to have private smoke schools at the plant if they need to train 20 people or more. If you don't have 20 people to train, but you would like to see a Whitlow smoke school in your area you could get together with some of your friends at the other plants in the area. You can participate in the Refer a Friend to Smoke School program. Email us to suggest an open school location at or near your plant. It is much easier for us to approve open school locations if you beat the bushes to find us customers in the area. We would appreciate some leg work on finding a park in the area. Call us anyway if you can not come up with 20 people or if you definitely found anyone cheaper than us.

In most cases it is better for us to schedule an open school in a park in your area. Sometimes your employees feel more at ease in a park because the park offers an atmosphere more conducive to learning. The park has a training atmosphere that has less traffic, less safety risk, and less background noise. The background noise interferes with our public address system and makes the test more difficult to pass. Parks with picnic shelters offer protection from rain, snow, and shade from the sun. Most parks have a few green trees that offer a better contrasting background for reading white smoke during the test. It is very difficult to pass the white smoke certification test if you have white smoke, dust, or a haze in the background. I am not bragging here, just stating facts. Whitlow is the most qualified smoke school provider, the best. We have 3 retired Louisiana DEQ employees on the staff. All 3 of us have taken smoke school training as Air Quality Inspectors for 30 years. We have been there, done that, and took a picture of it. We are the experts in environmental compliance and smoke school. We do it right the first time. We issue customer service. Our schedule fills up very fast, 6 months in advance. We are here to please you. If you earn a slot in the schedule for a private school, you are lucky because they fill up fast. If you get a slot in the semiannual cycle, you need to keep it, especially from March to May. We are extremely busy during these mild weather months. We focus our opacity certification test in ranges that are important. Your permit calls for low opacity levels below 50%. Therefore we focus in readings from zero to fifty. We give precise close up and personal instructions and we keep the test simple.

With over 100 years combined experience in environmental protection and smoke school we are the experts. We choose locations with your comfort in mind. Each location has a convenient classroom, clean restrooms, a shelter form sun and rain, and a contrasting background for reading smoke. We serve you free hot coffee, fresh donuts, cold bottled water, sodas, and a great lunch at each location. We desire to make you feel at home. We calibrate our equipment electronically and visually with the human eye before, during, and after each smoke school. We check the zero drift before and during each test run. If the zero is off, everything is off. We take our time giving the test, so you can keep up. We give precise instructions on how to take the test. If you pay close attention and bring a positive attitude, you will pass sooner than later. If you are having difficulty understanding what to do prior to the actual test, please ask for assistance. We are prepared to stay at each location until you certify to become a smoke reader. Remember, patience and attitude are everything. Be prepared. The first test run each day will take a little longer because we take the time to teach you how to take the test. Additional test runs will be quicker. Historically, most people pass by the third run because of our exceptional teaching skills. If necessary, we will retest until dark.
